My new found love for gin

I never thought I'd be a gin girl but here I am, deep into my 30s and writing a blog about my new found love for this magical drink. Maybe it's because I've bid farewell to my era of drinking cheap alcohol, or maybe because I'm no longer in university and now have friends who can afford the top shelf bottles. Either way, high quality gin has been one of my favorite spirits in recent years. Be it a classic G&T or a basil smash, a refreshing summer cocktail or a cozy winter apero, I just really really reaaalllly love gin.

Truth be told, I didn't know much about gin until we started making it ourselves. I didn't realize that it was essentially juniper-flavored vodka. In fact I didn't even really know what Juniper berries were despite spending every summer in the Mediterranean coast and being surrounded by Juniper trees near me all my life.
Today, I find myself sipping on neat gin, comparing different brands (and also looking if they made it themselves) and having conversations about London Dry vs Old Tom. I have a new found appreciation for the harmony of the botanicals and a deep admiration for the craftsmanship of the distilleries. The more I learn, the more I realize that there's still so much that I don't know about it.
On this World Gin Day, I'd like to raise a glass to all gin lovers who chase that perfect pour. Cheers!
Note: in case you're wondering, my favorite gin is Jetteset, Brussels Craft Gin (admittedly I may be slightly biased on this). From the more commercial brands my go-to is Sip Smith.
