Mangocello: limoncello with Thai mango twist

We just released our mangocello: a Brussels take on a classical limoncello but with a Thai mango twist!

To cut to the chase: it tastes amazing. But until I tried it, I was quite skeptical with the concept.

Why We Made a Mango Liqueur

I was skeptical because I'm not a big fan of limoncello. But we had some leftover Thai Nam Dok Mai mangos left from Fleur de Siam, our Thai Mango Blonde beer. So Dan our distiller thought rightfully to repurpose the extra mango to make a spirit. It made sense, so I reluctantly agreed. 

Bringing it all together in a craft Brussels artisan spirit

Turns out using highest quality ingredients and an experienced distiller/blender makes a huge difference. Being in a brewery and distillery in Brussels and having access to some top notch quality of ingredients came with perks:

• We used fresh mangos. But not just any mangos - Nam Dok Mai are some of the best mangos, the “crème de la crème” of the league of mangos. Thanks to the Agricultural team of the Thai Embassy in Brussels, we received a fresh batch of these bad boys which we together hand pealed and sliced.

• Our base spirit for this was our in-house Vivre, Brussels craft vodka.  Vivre is one of those top shelf vodkas that make you want to drink it neat. We literally pour our “hearts” into it (distiller folks will get the pun)

• The person who actually created this mangocello was Dan, who is an experienced distiller and also has previously made various liquors and spirits ranging from spicy vodka to chocolate liqueur and mastika liqueur.

Additionally the label for the mangocello is one of my favorites. Loving the pastel slightly yellow and orange colors, with slightly red and pink lines.

So put it all together and you get a high quality, silky smooth liqueur with a rich mango flavor. And looks just as beautiful on the outside as it taste on the inside!
